Sir Alec Jeffreys, definitely. His discoveries heralded a quantum leap in forensic science using DNA profiling. It has changed the world of policing and criminology. What previously would have been a bland crime scene or a person of unknown parentage is now rather more easily and extremely accurately identified. A game changer.
