It's just that our sort of items are far outside most auction houses fields of expertise. They've built up knowledge in areas where they get much greater turnover and where there is more money for them to make. The specialist auctions where the Beau Deccas and the pre-war tellies make an appearance are indeed specialist.

But it comes out fair in the end. The prices settle at whatever those who attend are prepared to pay. The auctioneers estimates are only guides, and only for those with no knowledge of whatever field.

Still, it's interesting to observe what values others outside our fields place on our stuff...
