Like Michael, I've had a couple of those large axial caps fail. The symptom of the right hand one when it shorts is simply no capstan rotation with the voltage missing. Took me longer than it should have done to find as I was convinced the fault was on the power supply board.
Confession time - to avoid removing the whole switch board I cut the legs by the capacitor and soldered in the replacement axial component.
