Sorry Chris, starting from one end and trimming off the other would not work, perhaps I should explain. I place all the major components on a large sheet of aluminium and when I am happy with the layout I cut all the holes for the valve sockets transformers ect. This is far easier to do anyway on a flat sheet than on a folded up box. I then trim and fold the sides to form the chassis, both operations being done with a Warco bending jig. Admittedly this method does produce a small amount of waste but not as much as finding you have to start from scratch as you find you cannot fit everything in.
