My uncle's front room looked like that until his passing in 2008 Perhaps this photo is similarly recent, and the telly / VHS combo (which he rented to the end) is just out of shot. He was a man of simple pleasures; his energy consumption (same fireplace, with a gas fire perched in it) was at the kind of level I'd like to get back to for the sake of my kids' futures.
