Is it necessary for the nominated person to be dead?

If those who are still breathing are eligible I'd suggest either Mr. Dyson or Mr. Berners-Lee (though some would claim Dyson's an engineer not a scientist).

Dr. R.V. Jones of WWII-fame would be another worthy contender in the dead-people list.
