I don't think the Philips Style 70 with the clock/timer was intended as a bedroom receiver.
I think the idea was to set it to turn on at a time when your programme was about to start. Complete madness as most owners turned the TV on for the test card and switched it off after the Queen. Without doubt a sales gimmick. J.
