Indeed. And the thing that governs the life of LED replacement bulbs is not the LEDs but the electrolytic capacitors contained therein. The manufacturers haven't yet caught on to the fact that the lamp they claim to have an optimistic life-expectancy is only as good as its weakest component.

So why aren't LED replacements made with detachable control circuitry like the industrial specced-CFLs, conventional fluorescent tubes and other discharge lamps are / were?
