The basic board (motherboard) had a number of modifications for the Dolby version which as I understand it are not simple to do. I think the print is different as is the printed switches.
Not something I'd try.
The VU meters are driven from the Record Amplifiers, to monitor the output, you'd have to disconnect the drive to them and reconnect them to the reproduce amplifier after the INPUT/TAPE switches
