This economy receiver was introduced in 1966 at around £20. If images or low gain are a problem you could buy the PR30 preselector.
The advert lists G3SZM,G3IRE,G8BBI as the design staff.
Eddystone S840C was about £66 then.
Codar also made model railway controllers !
