I've just found the two types of Electrak plugs I mentioned earlier
The pins look identical, it's the position of the plastic lugs that makes them fit their respective sockets.

I would guess that if you filed off the lug it would fit any socket.

For those who haven't seen these before, you insert the plug into the socket (which looks like a key escutcheon) with the cable entry to the right then rotate the plug 90deg clockwise.

As I said earlier, there was at least a suggestion that these should be used in domestic installations when they appeared in the mid '80s. They do have a lot to commend them, but I suppose BS1363 was too established.

What do you think?
