Default Re: 'Danger Man' aboard the estuary forts (Radio 390)

Billy Cotton Band Show... another dread from my past. Jimmy Clitheroe, too. These things just had to be endured waiting for the good stuff.

The Navy Lark was superb.

I was rather fond of the schoolboy humour in "I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again" perhaps because I was a schoolboy at the time. They did one of the absolute funniest jests I've ever heard on the radio. They took a number of standard numbers from musicaals and expurgated them:

I could have <BEEP>d all night
I could have <BEEP>d all night
And still have <BEEP>d some more
I could have spread my <BEEP>s and <BEEP>d a thousand things I've never <BEEP>d before.
I'll never know what made it so exciting, for all at once my <BEEP> <BEEP> <BEEP>....

Of course, we all knew what the real words were, but the censoring made it sound unbelievably rude!

I've never heard it done since. Kudos to Garden, Oddy and Brooke-Taylor.. and whoever wrote it.

Gems like this made up for dreary Sunday afternoons on the way to relatives while suffering Sing Something Sinful.
