Default Re: AVO Multimeter survey

Yep Trevor, you can certainly tell the wander plug instruments that haven't been kept in their box while out of use; i have a meter that has been boxed most of it's life and the terminals are as bright as granny's candlesticks!

I reckon survival of wander plug instruments has benefited from the good old 'lack of moving parts' phenomena. There is an additional glitch with the early avominor in that the terminals aren't always smooth and parallel along their length (possibly due to the peening) so nothing short of a miniature brass bottle brush or a pipe cleaner coated in abrasive polish is going to clean properly.

One thing i have noticed is brass suffering from zinc migration can't be relied upon for good conductivity- even if it's polished to pretty pink.
