Thanks for sharing this great story. My involvement with vintage radio and tv is very recent, but the many stories and situations around it - in many cases true win-wins, as you point out - never cease to impress and touch me.
I believe that eBay has been playing a very important role over the past years as many more people know about it (and gumtree and others) than about the BVWS or this forum. Online auction sites instigate new mindsets, e.g., whenever in doubt about the value of something, why not list it on eBay? It's a relatively easy thing to do (or you know someone who knows how) and your item will surely get a lot of exposure.
Come to think of it, all of my vintage tv sets and radios (only 4 in total... so far) were purchased on eBay.
