Dave,
I open the DC Avominor HR
It seems to be working fine, I checked a few ranges and look healthy!

In internal construction as you suggest is a series of resistors. The 1000V range does indeed have a series of 4 resistors (5meg) and then connects to a 5th resistor that comes up from the 250V range socket
