I use a low-band MX290 on 4m - it's one of the nicer looking ones fitted with a reprogrammed CX290 control head which functions as a frequency display and channel up/down step controller.

The only minor drawback is the lack of an s-meter, but it's such a nice looking radio that I would be reluctant to hack holes in it for an edge-reading s-meter or a row of LEDs.
