By way of an additional data point, my latest RP75MB (08757) goes to 104MHz, but does not have the "playback" socket. So from that, we can conclude that the arrival of the socket did not coincide with the range extension.
I'm not surprised. When you investigate their other sets, it seems that they don't like to make too many changes at the same time
