It doesn’t just happen in the trade... when my father was alive, I used to visit him every week. He was a late adopter of computers and really knew nothing about how they worked, so almost every week he’d introduce some problem which I was expected to diagnose and fix.

I arrived home late one night following one such protracted visit to find the telephone ringing. It was Dad. “I don’t know what you’ve done to this computer, it was fine until you messed with it!”
