Don't they just.
"It was alright until you looked at it" as once said to me when a lady brought her VCR back from having its dead PSU repaired. "Is it dead again?" I asked, "No, it now records in colour but plays in black & white".
She had set the rear switch to "Test Pattern" but switched back to B&W, not colour.
When quizzed about recording in colour, she was watching the programme as she was recording it, hence, it records in colour.
Some days, I don't miss the trade!
