Looks like an auction coming up.

Seen on the BBC's site this morning -

The Daily Star reports on Ramann Shukla's estate, which took eight men six weeks to clear from his three-bedroom house in Nottingham after his sudden death.

It's now been valued at £4m.

The collection includes a signed copy of the Beatles album A Hard Day's Night, a huge collection of vintage radios and 6,000 rare comics.

The items will go up for auction next week.

He seems to have been a Grundig enthusiast, there are plenty of Satellits and cassette recorders to go round.

That's the only radio equipment I saw while scrolling through a lot of photos, though there is a mountain of Electronic Engineer-type kits. I can't imagine what justifies the valuation, unless there's a large quantity of signed memorabilia. The pile of "rare books" shown resembles the stock-in-trade of any modern market stall.

I see what you mean. Even a couple of Pure radios there! The sheer number of similar radios and cassette units will mean they'll probably not go for much. Couple of nice world receivers there, though.

The three on the top left look to me like Grundig Satellit 1000.

Thanks for the link. So far I've scanned day 1 (315 lots). I shall work my way through the other three days in due course.

As usual, be aware of the additions to the hammer price:
Quote:

Buyer's premium: 17.50 %
Online commission: 3.95 %
VAT on hammer: 20 %

Re: Looks like an auction coming up.

Tried David's link to Auction site, but each of the 4 days seems to be the same lots. Couldnt see any radios, just electronic kits.
Navigation of the site isn't intuitive, just seems lots of hype.
Maybe it's me? Or not catalogued yet.

It would appear that way. Day 1 is supposed to be 1000 lots, but there are only 315 so far.

I note that lot 240 is followed immediately by lot 3001 (which I assume is the first lot of day 3).

Yes, never thought of that. seemed strange the 3000 range of jewellery mixed in.
I've enough stuff here anyway to hold my own auction!

Re: Looks like an auction coming up.

I wondered about it, but I think all the lots for all four days will be going in together in the online catalogue and there are 315 so far. There is obviously still a lot of items to be lotted.

That info could be clearer, but they probably normally only do one day auctions.

Have a look at the video on the page too, which shows the extent of the hoard and the amount of work it is to clear, transport, sort and catalogue it all. It is nowhere near finished yet either.

The items are in Lincoln. Many lots, including the Electronic kits are COLLECTION ONLY.

Lot #410 looks like two little CRT devices. Any idea what they are ?

I couldn't find them from the lot number but looking at the photo, I would guess they are either for educational or demonstration purposes, so they could remain safe whilst demonstrating their operation.

As a young teenager my interest in electronic was 'sparked' (sorry) by Philips electronics kits bought for me by an uncle working as an electronics engineer in the computer industry. Does anyone on here have memories of constructing these circuits with spring retained components and hook up wiring. What a pleasure this was. https://bid.unique-auctions.com/auct...a-ac4b00baa665

It's intruiguing that the person who hoarded all this stuff had several of each model. i can only imagine it was to hold onto the kits as an investment.

Indeed I do. I certainly "cut my teeth" as far as electronic circuitry with one of these sets - alas long gone, along with all the other clutter of my childhood.

Yes I to had a couple of those Philips electronic kits back in the day. The first one had all loose components that were held in place with spring clips, the second kit had the transistors on small pcb's but again used a spring clip system.

I have never seen so many Philips kits in one place, that guy was a very serious collector/hoarder and the range of items as well, there may well be hope for the rest of us out there yet!

Lot #410 just sold for £260.

Was it those tubes that upped the bids, or was there something else in there ?

To me they looked a bit like the oscilloscope CRT clocks that you can see on YouTube. If they were then that’s why they went for so much. Sort of similar in a way to the steampunk nixie clocks that certain people fall over themselves wanting. I doubt anyone would buy them for the CRT’s. I had to almost give away a big box of working oscilloscope and instrument CRT’s.

Re: Looks like an auction coming up.

Hi Gentlemen,

The two identical CRT displays in a perspex casing are part of two kits marketed by Philips in the 1980 for budding adolescent engineers.

Box 1 contained all the parts to build a television RF end (preassembled), an IF strip (preassembled) and the Sound section. TV standard was CCIR B/G in B&W. The tuner was UHF only. There was a very rare version sold in France which operated on System L/625.

Box 2 contained the CRT unit. It is a complete sub-assembly, complete with H & V deflection amplifiers and a 800V EHT supply. The CRT is a DG7-32 P1 Phosphor (Green) oscilloscope tube.

The documentation is a very complete & heafty folder book including many electrical experiments to be built, among others to turn the display unit into an O-Scope.

The two kit boxes together allowed the construction of the TV receiver. AKA a green-screen TV like we all built in the late 40s/early 50s using ex-Radar displays (VCR-97 CRT).

I purchased the display unit for a song (CRT busted) from a toy shop closing sale.
Once the DG7-32 replaced with a new tube, i used it for years to display X/Y Lissajous shapes on my stereo system; quite a girl-catcher !

The display unit uses all Germanium transistors. Opening the glued Perspex enclosure to replace the tube was quite tricky to achieve without breaking the plastic.

There is quite a following on German forums dedicated to the Philips EE (Electronic Engineer) Series. The 2 boxes are part of the Serie.

see here :

Full manual here; in German, Beware ! 56Mb download :

I never knew Philips made a kit as complex as a television set.

Oi, we're not all that old !.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I don't think I would have bid on them even if I knew what they were. My only interest in TV is watching it !.

Cheers,

Buzby
