Coultant power supply connections ?
 

Hi,
while going through some bits I found this Coultant power supply.
powered it up ( which I probably shouldn't have done ) and it still works...
+ 15 and - 15v rails ok.
so is the 5 volt supply on the yellow and black sockets...
But does anyone know of a better way of connecting the mains to it ?
would some crimps be a safer way ?

You can still get those crimp tags like the ones on the yellow wire.
There is a spare fixing hole that could be used to fit a finger guard.

Small (6ba?) ring crimps. There may have once been a paxolin cover over the teminals, there certainly should be something.

Something to remember on old Coutant supplies is that different models sometimes have mains and output terminals at different ends of the terminal strip so if you are using several different units mistakes can occur. I don`t need to tell you how I discovered that.

We normally used these with a fanning strip and a cover.

The fanning strip ensured that you didn't get the wiring wrong (unless the spare was a different manufacturer of course)

I suspect that the Yellow & Black sockets are just monitoring points for the 2 supply rails.
Why do you think there should be a 5v rail?
Some of these Coutant supplies also had remote sensing terminals but this one does not.
Most of these were 1 or 2 rail systems ranging from 1 to 10 amps capacity with series regulators.
Popular in the early sixties and used widely in the computer industry.
