Smart Thorn 9000 chassis tv project

I have thanks to the kindness of a forum member a few old Thorn tv's.
I have an original 1975 Ferguson branded Thorn nixie tube display 9000 tv.
It has its IF/decoder board missing ,so I am embarking on an ambitious project to include a digital front end .
I would also like to incorporate Wifi ,HDMI and SD card reader.
The first four channels of the six buttons will access BBC1,2 ITV and Channel 4 etc.
Then button 5 will access the digital menu direct ,all with nixie tube indication.
Button 6 will access HDMI ,SD and Wifi and will be toggled through modes.
I will keep you updated if you are interested,I will be making a custom pcb to fit in the original chassis frame, with direct tube drive and sync etc.

I look forward to seeing this, it's the perfect conversion for a set like this especially as it's already missing its original decoder.

I always prefer to use the set's own controls, never liked the idea of having a separate box for each TV & VCR along with the clutter of remote controls this entails. It just seems right to have the set directly access the various services, as it was intended to.

That'll probably end up as the world's best equipped CRT telly! With my own level of experience it sounds like a mammoth task but well worthwhile. Please do let us know how you get on with this, I'm interested to see what is possible although I imagine I'd probably spend as much time gazing at the beautiful Nixie tubes as at the screen!

Regards,
Paul
