B77 case clean

Hi all, I’m in the process of refurbing a Revox B77 which has spent a good number of years stored in a loft. It’s extremely dusty/dirty. I’ve managed to clean all the mechanism and boards, mainly with IPA. I’m now left with the case. It’s the standard grey box which I think is coated with Nextel? Does anyone have any pet ideas on how to clean it. It’s very slightly sticky so the dust sticks to it making for a very unsightly finish. Would it be possible to put it in the dishwasher or would that be too extreme? I don’t fancy the toothbrush and detergent route much. Mike

No idea re dishwasher as never had or used one, thing is you can't do a small area to test. Just use a bigger brush Mike like a nail/scrubbing brush.

Nextel was used in outer space so should be durable!

The best bet for a first attack is always household soap and water on a damp rag, or methylated spirits, but don't use meths near transfers. Stubborn stickyness usually succumbs to lighter fuel.

Foaming bathroom cleaner works surprisingly well on grubby surfaces. It even removes old fag smoke deposits. You just spray on a layer of foam, leave it 5 minutes to break down, then wipe it off with a rag. I buy mine from Poundland.

Have had this problem a few times. Apparently this coating does degrade. I understand that there is a company in Germany that can re-coat the B77 cases.

Not tried it for reason of cost implications!
Mine is still sticky, despite all known cleaning methods.

There's not a lot of moisture in outer space, and damp degrades this stuff. Shame, because the feel is positively luxurious until it breaks down.

I have a B77 which I have had from new. Case is also sticky. Not sure how to clean it.

Dishwasher would do it, I wouldn't put it on the hottest setting though.

If you want to remove the Nextel coating completely (sometimes the best option if its really bad) get some meths on it, it comes off with ease.
