An impulse eBay purchase worth a punt at the low price of 9.99 I thought it might be useful for a couple of valve amp projects I’ve got on the go. The front panel was basically fine but the scratched and chipped rear was pretty much turned black with grime and grease from its original grey. The meter just needed a clean. Allegedly a Heathkit V-7A clone to my eyes there are some differences in the circuit. The original battery was still in situ, thankfully hadn’t leaked but was very low voltage. I was expecting to replace all the resistors but measuring a sample they were all bang on so whatever the red things are they are good! Not so the caps....there are only 4 paper/electrolytics so I replaced all as I had all but the 20uf main smoothing cap. The grain of wheat power indicator was o/c and this was replaced with a red 6v led. All of the probe chassis sockets were damaged so these were replaced and some detached wiring sorted. Paint wise the rear case was sanded back and primed with Poundland auto grey primer. I luckily had a tin of brush on grey enamel in the right shade purchased cheaply some time ago when the local Homebase shut down. The battery was replaced again courtesy of Poundland and the whole lot reassembled. One of the grubscrews stripped so for now the main knobs are cheap substitutes. Build quality seems very high as you’d expect from a made in Japan unit. The pots for example are all made by Noble. I’ve ordered a dc test probe with a 1M resistor in series but from warm up it seems to be working well on AC and Ohms ranges. I’m attaching a pic of the readings from a 15k resistor. All in all a nice little unit and a pleasure to work on.

Nice meters, most Kyoritsu found in the UK in past years were up badged as Robin, and in more recent times as Kewtech.

Cheers McMurdo....I’d never heard of them, the meter movement is very damped and just feels quality. Looking at the prices of Their current production digital meters I can see why!
