It's worth looking closely as a few of the later lots have disparate items in, bundled together.

Had a quick look a few fine sets in there including a PYE MM and a PYE Fenman 2 RM would want to see it in the flesh to make sure all the RM parts are fitted though.

Not a single Cossor could I see :-/

So I suspect nothing for me this time :thumbsup:

There are also some interesting rare, large, 1950s Continental table radios + 3 Pye Black Boxes including the lovely Stereo G63.

One of the TR82CLs looks like a VTR103. There's the top of a telescopic aerial peeking up.

And a nice Pye G63 which isnt a radiogram.

Pity they can't spell gramaphone (sic).

It's a 560-mile round trip by car from St Helen's to Diss, it's a tortuous journey and would entail an overnight stay. To make that worthwhile, a bidder would need to be very keen to obtain a particular set and be prepared to outbid any other bidder. They'd also need to be a car driver because it would be impracticable to use public transport and a successful bidder would also need to lug his radio(s) back on public transport.

I can't personally see anything in the list that would cause me to attend even if the auction was in my own village, let alone in Diss, but that's just me. It's a 300 mile round trip for me to Diss, so whist it's theoretically possible for me to get there, for all practical purpose, I can't possibly attend and I can't think why I'd want to. A week later I'll be doing a 450 mile round trip to SW London - the second in a month, which is quite enough.

Fine for people who are nearer to hand - Norwich, Cambridge, Colchester etc, but for most bidders, it's only going to be practicable to bid online, and to accept the risk that not having viewed the lots, they have to be taken on face value. IE, are all the valves present, does the radio have a back, any worm in woodies, any cracks in Bakelite? As long as the lots aren't misleadingly described, as with any auction, you 'ride at your own risk'.

Certainly a large number of varied lots.

I've bought a few things from Diss auctions. The sale rooms are hugely popular, so as the OP is promoting it on here expect a bidding war for things you want. There are also buyer's premiums etc.

Hello All,
I went to the Auction Today to have a look, in general prices were quite high I thought - the Pye Fenman RM went for £380 and I think the Stereo Pye Black box G63 was £65
The Fenman did look in very good condition though and you don't see many of those!

I picked up my bits today (or rather my dad kindly did). I didn't get time to head up for it sadly so left some bids in advance.


I scored the TR82CL/VTR103 combo and the Pye MM. The Pye was probably market value and I have wanted one for years, nice to find one locally. It's in very nice condition having been restored quite well sometime in the past. The cabinet has been refinished and there's plenty of new components inside. Nice that all the controls work as I know they are prone to falling to pieces on these. Not sure if they have been rebuilt or not. Sadly the mains connector is AWOL so I haven't applied power yet.


Both the TR82 and the VTR work after a fashion. They will need the usual AF11* treatment. Again I have wanted a VTR for years and £50 for the two is pretty good going as VTRs alone can fetch that now. I will probably sell the TR82 on to recoup some of the cost.

I won the Philips 681A which is a set I have been looking for in good condition for a while (2x EL33 output so hopefully should be loud if nothing else!)

There was a nice Grundig Satellit which I wish I had bid higher for now.

I'm not too up on my continental stuff but I am surprised some of those sets didn't fetch more.

I thought the two Grundigs were very cheap too. I would have whacked a bid in on those if I thought I stood a chance. I also didn't spot that Philips Concerto, bet that would sound nice!

:angry:Well done on the VTR103. Hopefully my input on that lot helped! The G63 was still described as a radiogram, though. I don't think £65 for it was unreasonable. The amp alone would probably fetch more- stereo p-p UL ECL82s.

Would you be interested in a few GT322b transistors? Or are you OK for subs?

I didn't notice it was a VTR when scrolling through the lots until your post prompted me into looking twice!


I have now snipped the screen leads in both sets and they work beautifully on AM. I have plenty of substitutes for the AM side of things. Not sure what to put in the FM front end of the VTR though as I am guessing they are a bit more critical?


I fired up the Pye MM this morning. It works after a fashion, sadly it has the usual tuning cap trouble and is shorting out over most of it's travel. Without making a new mount for it there's not much that can be done sadly. Modern broadcasts just sound wrong on an 88 year old radio anyway so I will probably stick with listening to music from the period through the gram socket. It has had a lot of work done in the past but the capacitor block appears to be the original pitch filled one and that started to get a little warm and odd noises began to emanate from it so I will remove the power supply and replace those caps.
