NCV Live Test
Hello All
I was scanning some DMMs for sale on eBay and some have a NCV live position on the range switch. What is this test? Best rgds. Stef. |

Re: NCV Live Test
Its for Non-Contact voltage sensing, there will be a sensor (usually on the top of the multimeter) that allows it to sense voltage (usually mains potential) and will sound/flash a warning if voltage is detected.
Generally used by electricians so they can check if a wire/cable is live before working on it without needing to access the conductors. |

And rather handy to find where cables are in walls, saves that "drill, oops, bang" moment. Another use is locating a failed bub in a series Christmas (sorry, Saturnalia) light string.

Ah yes a cable tracer/finder. Useful to have it built into your DMM.
