Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
I had a duratool temperature controlled solder station a few years ago and it absolutely ate heating elements, it did not get a lot of use either. Hopefully this desolder station mentioned is of a better quality.

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
Thanks for the heads-up, Tim. They seem to get quite reasonable reviews, at least for occasional use.

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
They're not too bad for the money and spare guns and tips are cheap.

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
Mine gets used fairly frequently and works well. It's been very reliable, I bought a spare gun and several tips when I first bought it but have, as yet, not needed any of them.

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
It looks a lot like an Aoyue unit I have.
The arrangement for catching solder is a slightly different arrangement, but is a variation on a theme. On The Aoyue it seems specifically designed for burned fingers and hot solder splashes if cleaning is done while hot. I also found that the tips wear rapidly and end up being extremely sharp and liable to gouge PCB's My unit is now relegated to backup use if my Pace unit fails. Probably good value for money if you can't afford, or don't want to afford, a professional rework station. |
Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
is this just for pcb's or would this also work on old 20's baseboard type wireless sets that have the wiring soldered together and onto baseboard components?

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
It would remove the excess solder from the joint well, but you would still have to unwind the leads while heating the residual solder.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with one for non PCB radio and TV work. Solder-wick, a pair of pliers and a soldering iron will suffice. |

OK cheers :)

Re: Duratool Desoldering Station
I have this desoldering station combined with a soldering iron. I’ve had it for a couple of years and last month had to replace the element in the desoldering gun. CPC still keep these so well worth picking up a couple when you buy the station as they are cheap. I have had to replace 2 soldering iron elements which I put down to forgetting to switch the iron off overnight a couple of times. It’s a great value desoldering tool and speeds up component removal dramatically.
