By heck, the Marconi Q meter and it's signal source were bargains. Even the AVO VCM mk 4 wasn't stratospheric. But it looks like the valve traders were a-visitin.

It may be far out of my wandering range, but the results are always interesting to peruse.

The BVWS can only do so much.

It doesn't help that so many collectors have restricted funds.

Don't want to buy and speculate.

Last year I outbid the traders on a couple of lots but thats just £150 I won't see back because I don't resell.

I hope the BVWS continues to persue this policy.

But it will take a long time to flush all the dealers out of the system, and unless the mentallity of the average collector changes I am not even sure that its a good thing.

What do I mean by that.

Collectors in the main seem to want to pay Mini prices to RR items unless it's on open auctions.

Hypathetical So I have just passed and my family has to dispose of my collection.

I would hope that if the BVWS auctioned the items it would raise the maximum for my heirs, dealers or not.

Just my take, but I am saying is dealer does not always mean bad.

I see there were a few nice earners for the BVWS coffers (including one item for £13,500!) which has to be a Good Thing.

For what it’s worth I agree, I’m sure the seller wants the best price. Over the years I’ve needed the occasional valve which I’ve bought from dealers usually on eBay. If collectors had the valves would I find it so easy buy replacements?
Most of us are hoarders and prefer to keep what we have.

The issue of traders has been discussed at length in the Summer Bulletin thread, and I'm sure everyone expressed their opinions then. Let's not go there again here please.

You can get a 1930's Murphy for £10, fix it up, and marvel at your expertise as you listen to the radio. The great thing about this hobby is it is low cost.

Just be wary as it may lead you down the path of 'collecting' and paying £13,500 for something to look at ;D.

PS: I can never go to one of these auctions as I would come back with far too much stuff.

Must say in these financially turbulent times £13.5K for a piece of equipment as historically significant as the `Titanic' tuner could possibly be seen as a shrewd investment. That said let's hope it does end up on display to all in a museum somewhere.
