Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
I have been thinking it is about time to have another get together.
Who is interested in having a meet up here in Basildon one Sunday in October or November. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting some other fellow radio enthusiasts. cheers Mike |
Re: Get Together
Yes definitely count me in Mike....I missed out on the last one!

Re: Get Together
Hello Mike,
That would be quite excellent! Trevor |
Re: Get Together
OK, two people on here and another five replied on Golborne making 8 of us so far.
How does the 22nd of October, at say around 10 or 11 sound for the get together? Please let me know if you can make that date. Usual format, tea coffee, light snacks, lots of chatting and tales of daring deeds with a soldering iron. Bring something of interest to talk about, or if you want to swap/sell it. Any other suggestions. cheers Mike |
Re: Get Together
Looks possible for me, too.
Might well bring some stuff to "recycle"- I'm realizing that the contents of a 3-bed bungalow with garage, shed and garden room are NOT fitting well into a 2-bed bungalow with just a garage. Not been to Mike's before- please PM details? |
Re: Get Together
Not long now till our little get together.
Sunday 22nd October say any time from 10am. Names so far; from UKVRRR Sideband, TNC, Herald1360 From Golborne; Ppppenguin, Unrealdave, Westcliff, Alanworland, Valvebloke, I think I will send out a PM to all just as a reminder. Are there any more you will be most welcome. Looking forward to meeting you all again. Mike |

Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Hi Paul
Thanks very much for your good wishes, yes we had a great time nattering and munching and exploring some interesting items, we even tried out a few radios. cheers Mike |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Just to say thanks again to Mike and his wife for the warm hospitality, the hot food and drink and the very cool KB collection. And thanks also to Chris - Herald1360 - for driving me from M40 J6 to Basildon and back.
Cheers, GJ |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Agreed - its always a good gathering at Mike's - very friendly, always interesting and I always learn a little bit :)
Also good to meet a few new faces as well as the usual suspects ;D Its a shame that I couldn't get the Marconi 22 going, it worked before I brought it over honestly! Thanks to Chris for having a look - I felt very relieved when you looked at it, tried the same things as me and proved I hadn't missed anything simple. Chris - I have had a thought so will try it today and let you know what was wrong (if I can get it going....) Cheers Dave |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
A "grand day out" as they say. And I found a suitable home for about a hundredweight of boatanchor!
Not impressed by the M25/North Circular Road on Sunday evening, though. |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Well today went up the wall - never mind the Marconi, this time the truck gave up! The alternator was loose but all fine now. I'll look at the 22 on Wednesday with any luck :'(
Chris - I reckon its those coils so I'm going to mess with them. |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Put the 22 saga up in the main forum. It'll be an interesting change from the more common problems.
It might be worth making up a bogroll coil- about 80 turns suitable en/cu wire for aerial coil and about 10 turns of slidable reaction coupling winding at one end and trying this in the circuit |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Well I took the 22 over to my mate Fred's and we hooked it up with the same batteries valves etc and it worked first time ???
Aint life strange? |
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Shame, I'd loved to have heard it alive!

Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
We must have frightened it last Sunday! Maybe the shake up in transit sorted some poor connection out.......
|
Re: Get Together (Basildon, Essex)
Maybe it felt sick being on my green table covering.
Anyway glad it is working again. Mike |
