Mic wiring details, PYE MX290
I have one converted to 4 metres, but no microphone.
I did find the pinout for 5 PIN DIN mic socket ages ago, but cannot locate it now on internet search. Does anybody have it please? |

Thanks David.
I looked all over for it. Evidently not in the correct place... |

If you have difficulty getting a third party microphone to work nicely I believe I have one or two original Pye M290 / MX290 microphones (with plugs fitted) stashed somewhere in the loft. They may be either conventional fist type microphones or the quirky looking 'shaver' microphones, not sure what I have left.

All sorted now.
I have a number of Skiptech hand mics with electret insert and up/down buttons on top. No idea what they are for, I removed the 5 pin din and plug on the end of the mic and used a normal 4 pin connector. Not bothered about originality, the radio owes me nothing as it came as part of a job lot. |
Re: Mic wiring details, PYE MX290
I use a low-band MX290 on 4m - it's one of the nicer looking ones fitted with a reprogrammed CX290 control head which functions as a frequency display and channel up/down step controller.
The only minor drawback is the lack of an s-meter, but it's such a nice looking radio that I would be reluctant to hack holes in it for an edge-reading s-meter or a row of LEDs. |
Re: Mic wiring details, PYE MX290
True.
I use the theory if I can hear them, I can hopefully work them. If they can't hear me then we have not had the contact. S meters do not bother me, if I was bothered I would simply use an external one, fed via a flying phono lead. |
