Akai GX-230D not picking up on silver sense foil.
 

Hi my Akai GX230D has stopped picking on the silver foil sensor, it used to pick it up and then go in reverse as it should but for some reason it's stopped sensing it and now keeps running until the end of the tape.

If the reverse button works check out the sensor for muck/connections etc and make sure the foil on the tape is in good condition.

Circuit wise, the tape sensor is connected across the reverse button switch, both connect to the flip flop that controls the reverse relay and when either the switch or the sensor is operated/actuated the bias supply to the first transistor in the flip flop is connected to chassis via one of them and a diode, that in effect turns the other transistor in the flip flop hard on which in turn actuates the reverse relay, the relay coil being in series with that transistor's collector.
