Uher CR 240 AV

I've been checking out the usual manual downloads sites for an Owners or User Manual for this machine, with no luck. If anyone has a pdf to share it would be greatly appreciated. I have the service and schematic downloads.

I could take some pictures of the English section of my manual if you'd like. I don't suppose you want the other languages too? However, I'd also recommend buying the originals. I got mine from here: https://www.sds-consult.de/UHER/Preisliste_UHER.pdf

They're very helpful. The real circuit diagrams and servicing instructions, along with the owner's manual, are far easier to use than squinting at PDFs! At least, all the ones I found online were not great resolution.

Thanks for the link, very interesting that some spares etc still available. I'll have a good look through when I've more time. Still looking for a vu meter for my Report 4400 to finish it off. Back to the CR240, it hasn't landed with me yet, but I'm getting ready, new belt kit on order for example and reading up on the service manual and this very useful thread. The machine looks pretty staightforward to use, but, what does the slider switch immeadiately beneath the rec level pots do, the one with what looks like little tape reels side by side?

Yes, there are a few places that offer spares. Johann Gruber is another. http://www.uher-service.de/

The slider switch merely links and unlinks the two level controllers. Switched one way, they both move together and the other they can be adjusted individually. Behind the panel, it's a nylon ramp that pushes a linking wheel forward to mesh with both gears behind the knobs, or pushes it back with a spring to allow each to move by themselves.

I could also scan my User Manual if required. Agree with Uncle Bulgaria that definitely worth getting the original Service sheets + User manual.

Many thanks for the offer of scans. I only need the English operating instructing. I already have sharp copies of the others.

You did well to find sharp copies.

Next 5 Posts including this one will have scanned PDF copies the Operating Instructions.

Many thanks DMcMahon, these will be very useful. BTW recorders here are, Akai 4000DS, Revox A77 mk4 1/4 track, Uher 4400 stereo and soon CR240av Also have another Akai 3 motor auto reverse thing with an 8 track player recorder in the side cheek. It's in a mates loft. Its number escapes me possibly 1825? Was working fine last time I ran it. I've currently no room here for it, might have to move it on.....

Maybe Akai 1800L.

Well, my CR240 has arrived, and in very clean condition too, no missing controls and great cosmetic condition. It came in a hard case, which is not so good, but as the case was not expected, its a bonus, as it seems to have protected the machine! Put batteries in, powers up ok, tapes load etc but no drive. Dismantled as per service sheets to find main belt in bits and resembling a thin stiff cabletie! As it was completely detached with bits loose, I cannot for the life of me work out how to route the replacement. Guidance please and a photo if at all possible. Internal condition is A1, I dont think anyone has been inside since it was made. Really clean in there, heads barely worn, etc. Obviously not had a hard life. Many thanks!

This link may help, it is for a CR210 but is very similar.

Up and running! Not the easiest thing to work on and the service manual isn't great on the mechanical side! Without the help here I would have struggled. Playback quality via my "sorted" vintage Naim based system is first class, well above my expectations. Well impressed. I suspect it will be better than the Uher Report 4400 is at 1&7/8ths! Many thanks to those that took the time to post links and PDF's.

Great! The belts are jolly fiddly, but think yourself lucky you've not had to do anything more major. At least you'll find the information here if and when you do have to go to the extreme end of the spectrum. Let's hope David has the same success with his latest problem of the VU meters...

Re: Uher CR 240 AV Cassette Recorder

My premature thrill at getting the machine to play was dashed today. No record function. Just a flash from the red led then shutdown. Of course the answer was here. Switch K4! Machine has been given a good clean up of original grease and sparing new lubrication, and servisol for the pots and switches. All the lamps are out so will do the white led mod next. Btw should the green arrow play led be on constantly or only when tape is moving? Perhaps Ive not got the hall effect sensor quite in the correct place as I did move it out of the way to do the belts.
