How to remove back from Metamec electric clock?
 

Hi all
can someone tell me how to remove the white turning dial for the hour and minutes hands on this electric metematic electric clock as I don't want to just tug at it in case I break it.

Not familiar with that model, but in my Metmecs, the knob has a left-hand thread and just unscrews.

So do you need to pull it out as you would to move the hour or seconds hand or does it need to be pushed in and then unscrew it?

Mine are late 1940's alarm clocks, and you just turn to the right to unscrew. The back of the clocks are marked with an arrow to show the direction (anticlockwise) to turn to adjust the hands, which means that it you overshoot, you have to go all the way round again (24 hours as they have AM/PM windows). If you can turn your hands in either direction, there must be a different method of attachment.

I have a VERY vague memory of my much more recent metamec, that that adjuster might be captive in the plastic back and slide over a (perhaps square) key when you put the back, back on. Might be worth undoing the screw in the middle and withdrawing the back slowly, to see what happens.

Thanks guys your absouluty right there is no need to unscrew it the back just slips straight over it phew glad I did not try forcing it off would have broken it as I did with a previous one.
Just wired it up and is working fine although I do not like those plastic cogs fly wheels lots of them not sure what there called. I have an older model the marbled effect one pic attached which I've refurbed but the coil was OC and couple of the plastic cogs flywheel teeth had deteriorated and one broke in half so I can use this one as spares hopefully although there are only two plastic ones in this model the rest are brass as opposed to the one working which seems to have majority plastic.
The reading resistance on this coil/solenoid is 7.9k ohms I assume that's about right for this model? Or is that abit high?

Well all repaired and working perfectly managed to pick up a donor on ebay for 3 quid and used parts from that to fix this unit. So still has it's true originality not a quartz movement as last resort. The front is glass not plastic which seems to unusual most seem to be plastic and cheap plastic brass coloured surrounds.

Looks nice next to my 1930s Weltz spatter glass candlesticks.

Just before requesting close on thread does anybody know the model number for this one and date looking at internal mechanism which only 3 cogs are poly the rest brass I would assume it could be 1939? Majority of other models seem to be all poly internals. I have looked around to no avail.

Metamec only started making electric clocks in 1947, so it won't be from 1939. I would quesstimate an elecric clock with some plastic parts to be from the mid 1960's onwards

Cheers so 1960 plus. Any ideas on model number? as mentioned above not been able to find this particular one at all. Few for sale but not many and most are quartz and in poor condition think including mine I've come across 3 with electric movements.
