Grundig 3040M
1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, firstly I hope this is in the correct area.
I have a couple of questions, firstly there is no colour left on the plastic tuning indicators (see photo) would this have originally been red and any tips on fixing this? Secondly the tuning clutch seems a bit sticky as the FM running can move slightly when running in an AM station. I'm weary of hitting it with oil does anyone know how to service these? Much thanks in advance Andrew |
Re: Grundig 3040M
There is a YouTube video showing the pointers a red colour, would a sleeve of red plastic wire insulation to the job, thinnest you can find?

Re: Grundig 3040M
A drop of red nail varnish works well.
The clutch will need to be taken apart, cleaned and rebuilt. You will also need to replace the rubber 'clutch plates' to get good smooth operation. |
Re: Grundig 3040M
Is modern nail varnish still made with Acetone?
Could the Acetone damage the plastic pointers? |
Re: Grundig 3040M
Isn't it nail varnish remover which is made from acetone?

Re: Grundig 3040M
Humbrol still make the little tins of paint and there is a bright red in the range. Finding a model shop these days that sells them might be more of a problem though! The usual on line sellers have them but the postage makes them expensive.

Re: Grundig 3040M
I've used aerosol paints for respraying pointers. Overkill though unless you already have some.

Re: Grundig 3040M
Hobbycraft have retail premises in Hull (Kingston Retail Park, Unit 4B, Kingston St, Hull HU1 2TX) and the company offer Humbrol tins (https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/brand/h...lowsearch=9871)
Worth a look I would have thought... |

Since the coloured polymer itself dissolves in both solvents, it's reasonable to suppose that a substance which is soluble in one will also be soluble in the other. As they always say, test on an inconspicuous area first ..... |
Re: Grundig 3040M
Humbrol etc can also frequently be found in toy shops, near the airfix kits.

If you have a branch of "The Range" near you, check out their arts-and-crafts section: my nearest branch has a whole range of 'acrylic' paints in small containers.
