Bush TR82C etc case repairs
 

As Hammerite brush cleanerand thinner is a solvent for the material from which these cases are constructed it is possible to do "weld" repairs. eg the chips missing from the backs can be replaced by removing pieces from the locating "fence" that runs around the inside of the back and welding them into their new position using the thinner on an artists paint brush. DO THIS IN THE FRESH AIR!

Another useful solvent is the stuff used for glueing plastic drain pipes, particularly the one made by Osma.

The resulting weld is every bit as strong as the original, but one word of warning, usually if you get an adhesive such as Araldite where you don't want it you can wipe it off before it sets. These solvent cements are absolutely unforgiving and will mark any surface instantly. Any attempt to wipe it off will only make matters worse.

Unfortunately they will not work on bakelite.

A less useful solvent is RS sticky label remover. Don't use this on your TR82 unless you want to turn a patch of nice, smooth plastic into imitation lizard-skin. :( Trust me, I know what I'm talking about!
