The NVCF is moving again

From May 2006 the NVCF is moving to the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre (WEC). I have just added details about the move, with an FAQ and photos of the new venue, to the NVCF website.

The reason for this move is simply that the NVCF continues to run at a loss. The last one at the National Motorcycle Museum (NMM) lost £3600, which has had to be made up from BVWS funds.

The main reason for the move to the NMM was the free car parking. The cost of hiring the halls was similar to the NVCF, although the price was fixed for a period (compared to continuing increases at the NEC). It was hoped that the free car parking would attract people back to the show, as car parking charges were the single biggest complaint about the NEC, however this was not to be.

The hall hire at the WEC is around half the cost of the NMM and NEC. We have also reduced other costs a bit (there will be no Collectors' Guide for example, just a printed stall guide sheet). So the event is almost certain to return a modest profit this time.

We have adjusted the stall booking and helper ticket pricing a bit, to hopefully eliminate some abuse of the helpers tickets. This also makes stall hire more attractive for individual collectors.

BVWS members now qualify for a discount on stall hire. This is the sort of member benefit the BVWS were hoping to offer with the purchase of the event, but until now we had been unable to do so.

The WEC has a 100 seat cafe on a mezzanine above the main hall, and also has an on-site cash machine. Car parking is free, naturally, and is adjacent to the hall. We are looking into the possibility of running a shuttle bus to nearby railway stations.

At the May 2006 event we will have the first of several planned displays to mark the 30th anniversary of the BVWS. Details are still being finalised but the current plan is that it will also celebrate 70 years of television broadcasting.

Please see the details and FAQ on the NVCF website for further information.

Re: The NVCF is moving again

Hello there,
When you say from May 2006, do you mean that the NVCF event this May will be at the new venue, or after this event in May?
On the BVWS website there seems to be no inclusion of a NVCF event in late September/October. Has this event been cancelled so that there is now just one event in the year or have the Oktober dates not yet been confirmed?

Many thanks,
Christopher Capener

I would think that this is a positive thing to occur - I wish the organsiers good luck - Moving an event twice in two years is a difficult thing to do - I hope it pays off.

Cheers
Sean

The May event will be at the WEC - there will be no more at the NMM.

It was announced in the Christmas BVWS Bulletin (and on this forum) that there would be one NVCF per year instead of two, and also three Harpendens instead of four. Following the decision to move the NVCF to the WEC there was mention of going back to two per year, but I don't know whether a decision has been made on this yet. For now assume one per year in May as announced.

I have just updated the BVWS diary page to show the new venue for the NVCF.
