Who was 'Cathode Ray' in Wireless World?
 

Hello All

I'm not sure this question is in the correct section, but here goes anyway.

Does anyone know definitively who 'Cathode Ray' in Wireless World was? Searching the www seems to indicate that it was M G Scroggie. Is this a 'proven' fact?

Yes, 'Cathode Ray' was Marcus Graham Scroggie FIEE, son of a Baptist Minister, who also published under his own name, e.g. 'Radio & Electronic Laboratory Handbook'.

He was a brilliant electronic engineer with a gift for clear explanation and also an ability to ask interesting questions on the subject.

Wikipedia also says that itt was Scroggie.

Out of interest, and apologies for diversifying a tad, is it known if FJ Camm and MG Scroggie were friends in any way? or were they kind of 'enemies' working for different magazines?

Hi!

He also produced a follow-up to his book "Further Thoughts On Radio Theory" called "Essays In Electronics" published in the same format by Iliffe in 1963, that doesn't seem to be quite as well known as his earlier one!

Not forgetting the all-time great "Foundations of Wireless" - one of my earliest introductions to the field.

I know Mr. Scroggie mainly from my interest into valve audio amplifier technology.
