A Hi from West Wales
Thought I had better introduce myself.
Name is Alan and I live near Llandeilo in West Wales.
I have 'dipped' in and out of the forum numerous times when searching for information, so thought it was time to try and give some back!

Have been around electronics all my life, radio, audio, computers and so on...
Worked for Burroughs Machines (and computers) very early on, then for Xerox for 30 years, but was brought up on valves in the late 50s and early 60s.
20+ years ago I was mostly interested in radio, AR88s, HROs, PCRs Eddystone etc. as well as interesting domestic sets, Roberts, Marconi and McMichael and so on.
Now I tend to spend most time on audio gear restoration (valves and transistors), but still occasionally dabble in a radio.
Catch you all soon, Alan.

That sounds like a healthy mixture.

Welcome to the forum Alan

I too am a 'valve man', started in the TV trade in '54 when there wasn't anything else, I feel much more comfortable with them than the later 'solid state' equipment. Don't get on with digital electronics though, or to be honest, don't understand them.

Hi Alan - a belated welcome :)
I had a very enjoyable holiday in your part of the world a few years back - I stayed near Brynhoffnant - very handy for visiting Paul Evans' excellent Museum of Internal Fire, also catching up with ex-BBC chums (now Arqiva staff) based at Blaenplwyf and Preseli. I particularly enjoyed spending time on the beach at Llangrannog with my Border Collie (avatar refers) :)
All the best

Hi Guy the museum you mentioned is excellent, among many other exhibits he has got a working telephone system, and when I last spoke to him ( year or two ago) he was going to exhibit vintage Radios. Iíll have to get an update.

Re: A Hi from West Wales
The museum also has a radio room with various maritime setups on display as well as a display of vintage electronic equipment. The Aberystwyth and District Amateur Radio Society visit every year.

Re: A Hi from West Wales
I stayed just to the west of LLangranog for about a week two and a half years ago. Tremendous view of the beach and village from that sharp corner going up the hill immediately to the west. The temperature hit more than 30 degrees (very warm for the UK) on a couple of the days I was there.

To my shame, I did not make it to the Museum Of Internal Fire. I meant to, but got distracted on the day I was due to go.

Anyway, greetings to Snowman_Al, whose proximity to that area I envy.
