Clearout of stuff near Southampton - mostly test gear

1 Attachment(s)
A few of us attended a clear out of a store that was advertised on the VRAT Forum last weekend, the chap organising it isn't a member on this forum but he is back down there this weekend if any members would be interested.
Mostly consists of old test equipment and various units designed for specialist measurements but ideal for a source of parts

Please PM Me if interested

Many Thanks

I've twiddled the title a little, it might get you more interest.

it looks very, very intriguing.

I've been down there and this photo shows only one of about 4 alleys of stuff in the barn, and there is an upper floor as well. An Aladdin's cave!

This looks very tempting... I'm rather glad I am stuck in Scotland so there is no possibility of me being able to get down there!

It reminds me of the Computer Reset warehouse in Texas (one visitor's account here), which was a warehouse full of 80s/90s computing equipment that was being liquidated. I think(?) the way that Computer Reset was handled was that you paid a fixed entry fee and then could take as much as your car / van could handle. How was this one being done, Steve? By individual items? By weight? (There may be more details on the VRAT forum but I think the specific thread must be closed to non-members as I couldn't find it).

I do have a friend into unusual electronics that is in Southampton, so I'll let them know, but I believe they already have a lot of stuff - a common problem, I think!

I wonder if there's some more exotic AVO equipment in all that. It seems such a pity to scrap unusual, possibly even unique units.

How indiscriminate is the "clear-out" or is there hope that the better items will be saved?

Wow, I would love a good scrounge around there. I'm too far away and over the Irish sea, probably a good thing as my lady would finaly completely loose her mind. :o

I just checked, and Luke will be down there tomorrow (Friday) and on Sunday as well. Anyone needing his phone no, please contact marlowradio (or me) via PM. The deal is apparently more of a "fill your car" pricing structure than every item individually! I am told that it all needs to be cleared. Sadly I am not available this weekend (wife's birthday).

I'm so very tempted but I cannot get any more stuff into my workshop. I hope it finds good homes - please let us know what you find everyone!

You night find something juicier that what you already have, and therefore need to move something on in turn.

That's my logic.

Like everything, it's up country...I guess we're all clutching our necklines in horror that some irreplaceable device is going to end up returning to its constituent atoms. I shouldn't read these threads! 8-\

I have zero room for any more toys. In fact my quest is to clear the lock up - it is just a money pit.

So watch this space for some (potential) goodies.

It was mine as well, however having recently downsized my home, it is a major task to reduce my collection, particularly when I struggle to decide which of my 8 oscilloscopes I can do without!
If you can be disciplined and move on items following your upgrade it a is a great way to enhance ones test gear steadily at modest cost.

. . .And as well as being too far away I'm afraid my friend 'd go stark raving bonkers if he saw that lot!

Why are these things always @ the other end of the country or across the pond?!

I hope it goes to good homes too, it would be a shame to lose more vintage kit, getting harder to find stuff since many sellers just part stuff out.
