Philips N1500 Drum Cord.

Hi all,

I've managed to get hold of a Philips N1500 VCR from a fellow member on here, so far I've replaced the broken plastic threading cog/gear, cleaned all of the black belt goo off the pulleys and fitted new belts.
When I switch it on the head drum spins and rotates into position as it should but when I switch it off the drum doesn't rotate fully back to the off position, I have to help it slightly. I've noticed that the threading cord is a little slack.

How do I tighten the cord, or if possible, take it off and re-thread it?

Other than that, the tape transport works but I can't get any picture or sound output from it as my TV doesn't find the rf signal. I'll be getting some more n1500 tapes next week so I'll try those.

Many thanks,
Richard.

Hi John,
Thanks for that. I've been watching g his videos on YouTube regarding the n1500 and n1700 restorations, interesting stuff.

Just an update on it, I connected it to a different TV via rf and there is actually picture and sound output! I've been watching an ancient recording of some rubbish American film complete with continuity from the BBC and Pebble Mill at one.
I've made a test recording and all the colours are there etc but I think the servos are playing up a bit as the speed slows down and speeds up a bit. It could be the tape I've got though as it looks very well used. When I get the other tapes this week I'll try it again.

I'll search through those posts to find mention of that darn threading cord and possibly message the chap to ask his advice.

Thanks again, John. I'll let the board know the results. Fingers crossed I can get it working 100%.

Cheers,
Richard.

Re: Philips N1500 Drum Cord.

The flipping drum cord snapped this morning and will need a replacement. I'm going to put this VCR into storage for when I've got the patience for it again.

Can this be closed please?

Cheers
Richard.
