Flat 4.7k Resistor
 

Does anybody recognise this resistor type ?
I got a number of these in a 'mixed bag' a long time ago but would be interested to know their specification.

They were a higher power for vertical mounting for better air circulation.

High power, yes - but also low series-inductance..

Similar-looking 'flat' resistors were used in the Pye A200 linear-amplifier's input matching/attenuation network.

I'm sure they were used in some TV's, Thorn TVs maybe?

Thanks for all the reply's. I agree that they would be good for RF and might be thick film types so without further information, I'll just have to guess their power rating - say 1W or so.
I wonder who the manufacturer was ?
Unlike capacitors, the makers of resistors tend to be anonymous.

Wait until you try surface-mount parts :-( Capacitors don't even get values marked on them.

You can measure the capacitance, but then you still don't know the material, tempco or voltage. With resistors the size usually gives you the power capability.

Quad supplied resistors of that type, as plugins, with their 405 power amplifiers to limit the output for use with lower powered speakers. The service manual may give an clue as to who made them.
I remember seeing those resistors and think they were marketed as suitable for close packing of components on a PCB and suitable for machine insertion.

Would also be good as snubber resistors in switch-mode power supplies. Low inductances are vital here too!
