A new thread for those who want to realize this great training tool, the PCB is made with eagle.

I have a question about the PIC14: As far as I remember, the PIC14 executes code at full speed from RAM, and at half speed from ROM.

The PIC18F452, 100% pin compatible with the 16F877, can use a 'PLL Mode' clock where the device can multiply a 10MHz clock 4 times to give an effective 40MHz clock.

If the PIC14 code was programmed into a PIC18F452 with the clock so configured, then I guess it would run ROM code at full speed and RAM code at double normal speed.

Would it then be possible to alter the PIC code a little to bring RAM code speed back down to normal speed? If so, the PIC14 would then run all code at the original speed, or at least original speed for a 4MHz clock.

Maybe this is possible I am for the moment on the project with timbucus of the SCRUMPI but Karen could bring clarification the assembler code is open so modifiable to change from PIC the containment this ends for me back to work alternating for the moment
but I think in karen’s explanation she already gives the timing
the original program works clock etc. the PIC 16F runs with 20MHZ

Indeed, my PIC14 has 16F877 +20MHz at the moment.

I have always wondered whether it would be possible to have full speed emulation from both RAM and ROM if the clock was 40MHz, but the 16F877 can not operate at that speed.

Thanks Daniel, I have a Pickit2 and ICD3 here and I think philoupat83 is also sorted that way, but the thought was appreciated.

Yes, I have the equipment to program the PIC all.
I received today the pcbs of JLPCB as possible I would assemble to control (I cross the fingers)
I have an NSA 1588 display so I have to check if it’s compatible?
and I miss the 9 pin connector but nothing serious

Superb looking PCB. We will let you try one out and then if it works, you may suddenly find that everyone wants to be your friend. :)

I see two modules there. One is obviously a USB-Serial to TTL-level converter for the serial download.

The other... a Lithium battery charger / power manager circuit?

You can usually use a DMM on its 'Diode Test' range to power and faintly illuminate each of the segments in the display so you can quickly work out all the connections on your display.

Although the original display was 9-digit, the first digit (on the left) is not used on the MK14 so you can use an 8-digit display.

The display which is in my PIC14 was tested in my MK14 first.

I notice you have included the digit-driver base resistor bypass capacitors - Karen said there was an issue with the digit driver transistors not switching quickly enough and offered those capacitors as the eventual solution.

yes but in version 1 j used BC547A and I did not put the capacitor on version 2 I preview them as prescribed Karen may still with BC547A

the connector is used for output and input as Karen intended them in version 2
