Black Star Meteor 100 Frequency meter

Is there any way that one of these frequency meters can be checked and calibrated?

thanks
Mike

Back in the analogue TV days I checked mine against the colour subcarrier oscillator in a TV. Unfortunately this is not possible today!

Could you get hold of a GPS module? I believe many of these have an accurate reference frequency output.

Do you have an RF signal generator? If so you can tune it to zero beat with a standard am broadcast signal (using a normal receiver) and then transfer its output to the counter.

That sounds like a possibility, Ill give it a try.

Thanks

Mike the service manual gives you the circuit and components needed so you can add an external 10MHz reference connection if you wish.

The manual is on the forum https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=48608

Wow over 1400 views of the user and service manuals. Looks like a popular frequency meter!

Re: Black Star Meteor 100 Frequency meter

I tried the method described by Dickie and it seems the adjustment is at its maximum.
I used radio Caroline on 648 as a source to set my RF oscillator to. I would have used 198 but for some reason my meter shows this as 98 leaving out the 1.
This was before I saw the service manual so I will have another check to see if the voltage trimmer needs to be tweaked.
But I think it is better now anyway.
Thanks guys.

Keith,
I note that you previously said you were in possession of some other Black Star models...
Might you by chance have anything on the Black Star 1325 counter?

I've tried everywhere for any info.

Thanks,

David.

The only other Black Star instrument I have is the Jupiter 500 function generator but I only have the user manual for this.
