Recording from a laptop

This may sound as bordering on fraud but I am asking for a genuine reason.
When I am viewing or downloading certain material I am told there is a certain time limit in which to watch the material. So, could I fit an HDMI to AV converter and record laptop images to my hard-drive recorder? Or will the "countdown" data also be transferred.
Thank you.

Google is your friend here, do a search for Get iplayer

That's assuming it is a BBC TV or radio program you want to record

An alternative to Iplayer is VLC media player...this is open-source and does not belong to any multinational, it is a nimble and non-intrusive, regularly updated by enthusiasts and has a huge following who add codecs etc as they come along. It has many options including converting/saving material.
