Can anyone shed any light on this roller coaster ?
What it came out of and ratings etc.

Not just a roller coaster, that looks like a transfer roller coaster where wire is wound from a plain metal storage roller onto the insulated coil former roller. They are much less common. The only one I've had was in a Marconi PA stage and that had equal size rollers, both about 5 inch diameter.

Nice!

It's out of a Racal 931 manpack transceiver: https://www.recelectronics.co.uk/syncal30.htm

Thanks - I vaguely remembered it was from a Racal and due to the antenna connection guessed it was some sort of portable unit.

I'm planning on building a vintage AM tx for 160, 80 and 60mtrs and was considering using it as the PA pi tank coil - but I'm not convinced it could handle the power so will likely use a switched tank coil instead - plus it'd be a bit easier to tune.

Looks like the ATU from a Racal manpack to me!
