Murphy A48, a bit of confusion - someone didn't proof read?

So,
In the throes of rejuvenating a Murphy A48...
Electrical work pretty much completed, OOT resistors replaced, caps restuffed, rubber insulated wiring excised, perished grommets replaced...

Time to rethread the snapped tuning cord, looks pretty straightforward except...

Reading the Murphy service instructions makes no sense at all - however...
reading the A48 section of "The Service Mechanic" 1944 "More Cord Drives" makes much more sense.

I wonder what happened here... proof read on a Friday?
