Type Of Hunts Capacitor
 

Hello All

I’m working on some vintage test gear. I have some Hunts capacitor that are encased in white plastic. From the values 100uf at 12 volt I am guessing electrolytic. But I’m wondering if the plastic can has any meaning are they non polarised electrolytics. I have a few that have doubled in value so best have them out I think. It’s a Dymar two tone generator and haven’t been able to find any information on it.

Hunts electrolytics were no better or worse than others, but high readings do indicate leakage, not surprising given their age. They are polarised, once out it should be clear.

There are some nice Mullard caps in there. Never had one fail yet.

Thanks for the replies. I didnt recognise the white plastic casing on the Hunts I don't think I have encountered this style before. I don't' think Hunts were much better or worse than any others really. I also have never had a bad Mullard cap.

For those white Hunts, I would expect the end with the slight bulge around the cicumference (seal crimp?) to be +ve. The end plainly visible in the fourth picture looks like a can -ve connection.

I thought they had a blob of red paint on the + end. The 100 mfd in pic 5 has a crimped end which will be +.

They are old enough to have the positive marked in some way, rather than the negative as now.
