Picked a box of new radio spares and parts from local auction looks as if most of it came from Hurst.Son & Page LTD 16 Market Place Boston Lincolnshire
anyone remember them ,its not a firm I have come across before

Nothing to do with radio but perhaps an old established local family? There is a comment and a photo of Hurst and sons seed warehouse est 1810 about half way down the page. Perhaps descendants?

Hurst & Page were Chemists in Boston as were Grimble & Kent and Boots, I remember them well.I live there until to 1952 and remember Boot's corner where you could safely leave your bike all day without a lock. Dawson had a radio repair shop in Bridge Street and Ron Diggins worked there. Ron was the first English DJ or so said the BBC. John

As it happens I was in Boston over the weekend for a family get-together (I was brought up there in the 1960's and 70's). Hurst Son & Page were indeed a local business and seem to have had their fingers in quite a few pies, so to speak. As well as the seed warehouse in Nuvistor's pic and the chemist's mentioned by ex 2 Base (on the left of this pic from the 1950s http://www.boston.gov.uk/media/image...st_1950s_2.JPG) they were also at least a sometime electronics retailer as the bottom pic on this page http://bostonpast.blogspot.com/2013/...-odd-bits.html shows.

By the time I was old enough to remember I don't recall any electronics element to what they did. Recent photos of Boston Market Place show that their property, no 16, is still there on the corner of Dolphin Lane, but it seems to have been 'To Let' for quite a while. The electronics and repair shop that I used to patronise as a child was Wilf Mellor's.That was located on New St (or perhaps the address was Red Lion St - one runs into the other) and latterly on West St, if I remember rightly.

EDIT: There is a blurry pic and a passing reference to Mellor's in the second entry on this page http://bostonpast.blogspot.com/2013/01/. It's claimed that the shop closed in September 1967. That's earlier than I would have guessed. It was the same month as my ninth birthday and I don't think I was soldering much by then ! However my father was in the electronics trade too and it's possible that he had taken me into the warren that I remember Wilf's old shop being.

Can't resist looking at the detail in old photographs, so had to see if No.16 was still there today. So courtesy of Google Maps here it is - the building structures look pretty much unchanged in 70 odd years.

Ron Diggins and his Digola. A sort of mobile "disco" transported around in an old VW Caravette IIRC. I remember he provided entertaiment at a "do" we went to in the early 70s. Established before then though.
G4DDI, Colin Guy of VMARS used to work for Mellors afaik.
Grimjosef. I just looked at the Pye ad in your newspaper link. The advert above it of the Cheavins filter. We have one, minus domed top and tap. Used as a garden ornament. Came from my wife's gran who lived about 25 miles from Boston.

I too remember the Digola (Diggola ?). And Colin Guy did indeed work for Wilf. I was a schoolmate of Colin's in the early 70's, when he was G8IEV as I recall, and I hung around with a few other budding electronics beginners in his shack for a while. It's well over 40 years since we've been in touch though.
