ACV frequency response graph for a Model 8 MkIII. (Germanium rectifier)
Can medium price pocket DMM's compete with this..? Dave |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
I have always been impressed at the frequency response of analogue Avos. It certainly extends well above the 15kc/s test limit shown! I’m sure I’ve had Avo 7s reading well into the hundreds of kHz region, granted not to within +/-1% but still commendable performance.

Table Lamp Steampunking Craze! At least I got a Serial Number off it! Ian |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Like every fashion, it's starting to creak at the seams. Well done getting s/no.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
I can not understand why people do things like that, if i need a lamp i will look for one in IKEA or something like that
Hey people leave the Avos alone!! (with Pink Floyd music) |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
It's been a very interesting Month on Ebay with respect to Avometers.
I never thought in a Million Years I would ever see 3x Model 2's listed in a single month. Two Douglas Street produced versions and One Rochester Row Production. The First Two went for a surprisingly low amount in my opinion, around £50 earlier this month. The Third finished yesterday, under Make offer, so the final selling price is unknown. Anybody on here willing to own up to purchasing it? :) Again, it wasn't me. All three of these Meters are new to the Database, so it's amazing, just how many Antique Avo's are still out there ready to be found. Ian |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
What I find amazing, is whenever you find them, they rarely have the leads with them. Like buying a bicycle without any wheels !!

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
-NOS full sets of leads/probes/clips fetch more than the meters when they appear!

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
I did not see them. Now it is very difficult to buy in Europe from Canary islands due to new taxes. And in the case of UK is even worse due to the brexit. So I do not know if I could finally buy the rest of Avos to complete my collection.
I will appreciate photos of them. Congratulations to the new owner/owners |

Hi Aitor,
Just pulled these Photos off Ebay. The last one which ended on Monday looked particularly nice with original Leads by the looks of it. The oddly adapted one in the middle was an early Rochester Row production version. I'm still absolutely amazed that Three turn up in one Month! Completely unheared of! The Model 2 is not as Rare as one might think though. We now have 29 in the Database, which is not bad for a Meter that ended production 87 Years ago. Ian |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Thanks very much. They look pretty well. It is a pity the modification that one of them suffer but it is a model 2!!!
Thanks again!! |

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Sinewave,
The textured front panel Model 2 meters seem to correspond to Rochester Row production, they will also have an instruction plate with a black background and aluminium text. When production moved to Douglas Street, the front panel was smooth and the instruction plate was black text on a plain aluminium background. Ther are of course minor variations within these broad descriptions. They wouldn't be Avometers otherwise! PMM |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
The Rochester Row production Model 2's appear not to
have an external Fuse either. The Fuse is internal and appears to be made of Fuse wire. Not sure if all Rochester Row Meters were like this, but all the ones I've seen so far appear to be. That would be another easy way to spot a RR Model 2. On the move to Douglas Street, the external Fuse we are all familiar with seems to have appeared. Ian |
Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Yes, that sounds like it. I was going up upload a photo but didn't manage to, hopefully tomorrow, but from what you've both said, that sounds like the one.
