AVO high voltage meter (EX British Rail)

My Late Dad was an employee on British Rail and ended up a senior S and T engineer on the west coast railway working at the Preston power box

He passed away in 2011 and whilst going through the garage found several items
One being a BR AVO meter High voltage
The glass was dislodged and the cutover red
I have figured out the glass and I have the reset switch to repair

Just looking for advice on the mechanism

Hi Lee,

Just to start off on the right Track ;-), can you confirm what the Meter is?

I am assuming (Which is always a risk!) that it's a Heavy Duty AvoMeter, seeing as it
came from BR.

Provided it still has its Instruction Plate on the back, the Meter Model will be written at
the Top.

Is it just that the Reset Button won't stay down?

Ian
The plate has been lost but is a Avo Heavy duty with a single knob in the centre
The reset button is a twist to the right to reset the mechanism has an elongated loop with a corresponding second loop and and a pin that fits in the reset mech
If I pull on the reset the indicator in the bottom of the display
Changes from red to clear
So any help would be appreciated
As I say my late Dads
Also converting his line side lamp to a modern LED

Would that be the well known (to railway people) “Bardic” multi colour lens filter lamp?

Hi Lee,

If you haven't already got one the instruction manual is here.

Hi Lee,

That would be the correct operation.

The Red indicates the Cut Out has been tripped.
When you turn the Reset Knob and the indicator goes to Clear,
and it should remain in that position, it means the Meter should be good to go.

If the Cut Out isn't resetting, i.e. the Red indicator pings back,
then you will need to take out the Meter Movement to gain access
to the Cut Out Mechanism.

Unless there is a good reason to remove the Movement though, I
would leave it alone.

If there is a problem with the functionality of the Meter, let us have the details
and we can work through it.
